Stephen Crane's A man said to the universe: “Sir, I exist!” “However,” replied the universe, “The fact has not created in me A sense of obligation.”      I chose this metaphor because to me it is about a man, who represents mankind, who is contemplating his existence. The universe represents a god-like figure.  The man in the poem declares his existence to the world in order to be recognized, to feel that his presence is valued, and that he has significance in the big scheme of things. At the very least, man wants to be accepted by the world around him. It's fascinating how something so lighthearted can also be profound and serious. It's a painful truth that the world doesn't care about humanity, either as a whole or as individuals, since it's simply too big! While it's good to set huge goals and accomplish things, this poem is urging us to keep it in context. It's pointless to attempt to impress the world if you don't remember your friends and family. D

The image that captures my life is "Home".  A home is not just a house, it is a place. Home is where I want to go because my belongings are there, my toys that I grew up with, my childhood memories, and so much more.  Home for me is a place where my family is. Home is where I feel safe and loved.  This comes from my amazing family, the sense of security I have at home, and the love that is always present, no matter how awful things appear. The poem that I am comparing my image to is "Snapping Beans" by Lisa Parker. Parker uses several lines of the poem to describe the scenery, painting a picture of a quiet house in the countryside at sunrise.  The imagery can be seen in the lines such as “as the sun rose, pushing its pink spikes / through the slant of cornstalks,”.

The tone of my life is confidence. To me, confidence is a source of satisfaction. I believe that the more confident you are in yourself, the better off you are. I maintain my confidence while remaining humble about it. In a manner, I combined the humble and confident sides of my personality. Even if I am confident, I must have a humble attitude so that I never get ahead of myself. Being humble and confident also brings out the side of myself that is misunderstood. My friends and family wonder why I like to spend a lot of time alone and do activities on my own. Although I consider this to be a good quality, most others do not.  I believe that being self-reliant is a positive attribute to possess. Confidence helps me to accomplish anything I set my mind to, making me extremely high minded and confident in all I do. Confidence enables me to maintain a high level of self-esteem and hold my head high even when confronted with negative people. I utilize confidence in my daily life, e

"What will your verse be"? A simple verse within a lifetime of things I hope to accomplish.  My verse will be filled with all of my loved ones by my side, and the accomplishments we've achieved as a group will be measured by how much we've assisted one another. Whether these loved ones are my immediate family or friends, I want them to look at me and honestly believe I had a positive influence in their lives. Whether it's helping my sister with her basketball practice or helping her major lifetime decisions.  I'm always willing to provide a helping hand. My parents taught me how to be selfless, to think of others and always help out someone in need. I care deeply about my family and friends' happiness and success, and I will do everything I can to help them achieve their goals. Because I know God has a plan for everyone, my verse may not be what I anticipate it to be, but I will make the decision not to be alone. I will make people happy and have a signi
